Magazine Project Research- Men's Health

Magazine #4- Men's Heath The cover of the this edition of Men's Health  shows Micheal Dubree  posing shirtless. The space  surrounding the subject is  fully utilized.  This means that the entire cover is full of text alluding to what the magazine will contain. The text itself is bold and black which contrasts the light grey background  and the "Men's Health" title in bright red.  The magazine cover also utilizes foreground and background differences. For example the subjects head is in front of title which brings him to foreground and helps draw attention to the magazine. The articles in the magazine all revolve around men's health. For instance an article titled "Prep Your Legs For Winter" or the "#1 Diet To Beat Cancer." The ads include watches and beer, all items that the target audience would purchase.  The table of contents contains pictures of muscular men, giving furthur insight into the contents of the magazine. Besides the pictur...

Magazine Project Research- Sports Illustrated

Magazine #3- Sports Illustrated The cover of sports illustrated utilizes contrasting colors ( tan vs blue and dark grey). In addition the space the is used creatively. This means that the text is layer in a way where it is still legible but interacts with the cover photo of Dwight Howard.  For example the Sports Illustrated logo is behind his upper body but it is still obvious that the title does read "Sports illustrated". In addition there is a quote by Dwight Howard which gives insight into what the magazine article involving him be about. The cover also displays three other headlines at the top of the magazine, with the page numbers under the titles.  This has become an obvious trend between magazines is therefore definitely something we should incorporate into the cover layout of our magazine.   The types of articles included have to do with sports, anything from soccer to football or baseball. The ads in this addition have no direct relation to sports but have ...

Magazine Project Research- Florida Sportsman

Magazine #2: Florida Sportsman  The Florida Sportsman cover  is mainly blue  with yellow accents. Although the yellow is unique to this addition.  The picture melds with the blue background color making the transition to text seamless. The picture is an action shot of two young people pulling a fish out of the water. This action shot draws the reader in and obviously placed there to make the magazine sell.  All the text on the cover is in all caps to make it stand out more.  The articles in the magazine revolve around fishing  and start on page 8. The advertisements included involve boat vendors. The pictures in the magazine are all action and are on the water or by the water.  The text on the table of contents is small and  largely over shadowed by a picture pulled from a feature in this months issue. The circulation number  is 78,062, and it appears monthly.  This has not won any awards.

Magazine Project Research- Rowing Magazine

Magazine  #1: Rowing Magazine The cover layout is brightly colored, and the colors of the Title contrast the background.  The cover photo takes up the entire page and is an action shot that draws the reader in.  The cover also outlines some of the articles that will be present in the magazine . For example "Enemy Of The Good" or "Hand Speed Explained". You can tell the font of the title was picked precisely for this magazine because it reminds you of fonts found on Jersey's of players and it is slanted like the like swoosh.  On the inside of the magazine, there is no table of contents to refer to. The magazine itself is more than 50 percent ads, these ads consist of everything involving rowing, from boats and oars to rowing gear and venues. Articles do not appear until the center of the magazine or page 31 where the article "The Rising" appears .  The pictures found in the magazine are all action shots  which I assume are there intentionally to keep ...

Project Selection- My Decision

I have chosen to do the magazine project. This due to the fact that the project caters to my skills and interests. These skills include organization and some artistic perspective. The magazine will have to do with athletes in high school, so everything that goes along with being an athlete in high school.. For example time management, eating and balancing your life. This project will fall into the sports genre.   I am planning to work with Kate, Kelly and Ben.  Everyone on the team is an athlete which allows them an inside perspective into the world of high school athletes.  In addition they will have connections and experiences to pull from themselves. I predict that each member will contribute to the plan for the magazine and bring something unique to the table.

Project Selection-Film

Film production, like print journalism is a complicated process but in this case it requires more time and people.  For example film production requires actors, directors, stage hands etc. This means that more coordination is necessary.  This aspect of film interests me because I enjoy coordination and creating a vision.  Based on what we learned in class, an aspect of film that interests me is the directing aspect.  But this project might be a challenge for me because it is time consuming and my schedule is not flexible when it comes to time . In addition I would be tempted to create a short film, vs  the first 2 minutes of a movie. Finally it would be challenging for me to depend on other people.

Project Selection-Magazine

Print journalism by definition includes magazines and newspapers. It is of course  a complicated process that requires a variety of skills. One of which is to be able to come up with a concept for a story. This requires out of the box thinking and an ability  to  then pursue said concept to create an engaging story.  In addition print journalism requires an artistic perspective in order to engage your target audience without sound or video footage unlike film production.  For example a magazine requires a layout that keeps the reader engaged and contrasting colors to make to draw the eye.  The magazine would be a a fit for me because it would allow me to focus various aspects of topic. In addition I am visual person and am already envisioning possible layouts. Picking the magazine would challenge me by pushing me to work on my writing.
