Magazine #3- Sports Illustrated
The cover of sports illustrated utilizes contrasting colors ( tan vs blue and dark grey). In addition the space the is used creatively. This means that the text is layer in a way where it is still legible but interacts with the cover photo of Dwight Howard.  For example the Sports Illustrated logo is behind his upper body but it is still obvious that the title does read "Sports illustrated". In addition there is a quote by Dwight Howard which gives insight into what the magazine article involving him be about. The cover also displays three other headlines at the top of the magazine, with the page numbers under the titles.  This has become an obvious trend between magazines is therefore definitely something we should incorporate into the cover layout of our magazine.   The types of articles included have to do with sports, anything from soccer to football or baseball. The ads in this addition have no direct relation to sports but have to do with cars, cigarettes and even hygiene. The table of contents or the "lineup" as it is called in this magazine is set in front of a picture of  baseball player. The text on the lineup is compatible with  the image because  for the page numbers the magazine used a font similar to that of a baseball jersey. The circulation number is 3.2 million.

Revision-Cover page

According to my last post the cover page needed to be revised. This includes changing the title from Sota Sports to Soflo Sports. This makes sure that the magazine can have a larger audience and a more realistic chance of being a successful business. In addition I added a border and worked on the cover in Photoshop in order to give it depth in the title and an overall more sporty look.  Finally we changed the font of the feature article titles. Creative Critical Reflection Draft #1

How does your product use or challenge conventions and how does it represent social groups or issues? The genre of this magazine is sports. This determines the conventions that we have to either adhere to or challenge. In our case we chose to adhere to them, using a sport like font , the feature article titles present on the cover, using the same sport like font throughout the entire magazine, etc. On the cover page we used the title "SOFLO SPORTS" which fits the standards of the genre. Many sports magazines contain a  word in their title that make it clear to the consumer the topic of magazine. In addition we had our three feature articles present on the cover as we noticed was a reoccurring trait during our research into other magazines.
