Magazine #5- USA Today Sports Weekly

The cover of this magazine utilizes contrasting colors.  Th logo itself contains red and white which pop against a blurred blue background. This makes the cover pop. The subject of the magazine is a football player getting ready to throw the ball. The text on the cover is arranged around the subject which focuses in on him and emphasizes the words. The articles appear towards the middle of the edition, in a place called the feature well. They articles consist of sports related topics and coordinate with the feature tittles found on the cover.  The adds are similar to the one found in the other magazines I have come across in my research. This means that they consist of sports drinks and hygiene products. The table of contents contains pictures and the font is large.  There 958,784 print copies circulating each day. Although USA Today Sports Weekly gives out awards they have not won any themselves.

Revision-Cover page

According to my last post the cover page needed to be revised. This includes changing the title from Sota Sports to Soflo Sports. This makes sure that the magazine can have a larger audience and a more realistic chance of being a successful business. In addition I added a border and worked on the cover in Photoshop in order to give it depth in the title and an overall more sporty look.  Finally we changed the font of the feature article titles. Creative Critical Reflection Draft #1

How does your product use or challenge conventions and how does it represent social groups or issues? The genre of this magazine is sports. This determines the conventions that we have to either adhere to or challenge. In our case we chose to adhere to them, using a sport like font , the feature article titles present on the cover, using the same sport like font throughout the entire magazine, etc. On the cover page we used the title "SOFLO SPORTS" which fits the standards of the genre. Many sports magazines contain a  word in their title that make it clear to the consumer the topic of magazine. In addition we had our three feature articles present on the cover as we noticed was a reoccurring trait during our research into other magazines.
