The genre for our magazine is sports, specifically sports in high school. We used the conventions of this genre rather than challenged them. We used a font for the cover title that was similar to the ones used on jerseys, which makes the sports theme evident. This is something we found was used on the published magazines that we analyzed. In addition we used the concept of putting the feature titles on front page. For the cover photo I used an action shot as is typical of a sports magazine. The table contents uses the same font as the cover page but the features are in bold and slightly bigger. The page numbers are large as is typical of a sports magazine. For the article page I used a dominant photo at the top of the first page and the page numbers were cohesive with the table of contents. The magazine targets the social group of high school athletes. Even though the magazine is based in Sarasota the articles on health and training still apply to athletes across the country.
While working on developing my interview questions I had to decide what I wanted to write about. Due to the time of year I decided I wanted to write about winter training. A series of intense workouts that aim to make everyone on the team faster on the water. Due to the fact that I am a rower it was hard to ask questions, because I already know the answers to most of them, but I managed to come up with some 1. By your definition what is winter training ? 2. Do you think it is a necessary part of training ? 3. If you had a choice would you choose to winter train? 4. What is your reasoning ? 5. What is the most important part of rowing? 6. What is something that most people don't know about rowing ? I conducted these interviews either before or after practice.
