The 1st commercial that we analyzed was one for the NFL. It utilized well known football players and a well known scene from dirty dancing. These two concepts narrowed down the target audience to a somewhat older audience of 16-55 years of age. The use of well known football players targets a male audience but the dirty dancing reference pulls in a female one. This is due to the fact that dirty dancing is somewhat of a chick flick. The age of this movie also sets a targeted age. The add used techniques such as humor and an allusion to a popular movie to pull the targeted audience in. This is something the group would utilize in our advertisements.
The 2nd Commercial was one for the Winter Olympics focusing on Lindsey Vonn. This add specifically targeted females based the female star of the add. The background music, Alicia Key's "Girl on Fire" only adds to this. The add is a success story and shows footage of Lindsey getting injured and fighting to come back from this injury. This appeals to the emotions of the audience, makes them feel empowered and proud that Lindsey Vonn will be representing their country. The add only builds on this by putting text on the screen that says "Lindsey Vonn the best of US. This play on words only engages the audience further. We would use a similar technique when advertising for our magazine since it is sports related.
The final add was for Doritos Blaze and Mountain Dew. This add appealed to millennials from about 15 to 30 years old. This is due to the presence of a star of game of thrones and Morgan Freeman. These actors appeal to an older audience since game of thrones is made for an older audience and both are older in age. The target audience is expanded to the younger bracket because the songs each of the actors are rapping to are listened to by teenagers more than adults. This also adds an air of humor to the add to pull in the audience and convince them to eat Doritos Blaze and drink Mountain Dew. We would use this air of humor in our adds as well as popular music to pull the audience in.
