Revision-Cover page

According to my last post the cover page needed to be revised. This includes changing the title from Sota Sports to Soflo Sports. This makes sure that the magazine can have a larger audience and a more realistic chance of being a successful business. In addition I added a border and worked on the cover in Photoshop in order to give it depth in the title and an overall more sporty look.  Finally we changed the font of the feature article titles. In this way the magazine title would pop more.  Final Cover Page  Original Cover Page  Cover Page Template

Feedback/Revisions

I will add variety to the photos in my article, according the feedback they were all very similar. Therefore it would be in my best interest to schedule more photo shoots. For my table of contents I plan on removing the photo from the background so the text  can be seen clearer and to cut costs. In addition I plan on better coordinating what actually appears on our table of contents to be more cohesive.  on the cover page I plan adding more text so the space is more filled. We are considering changing the name of the magazine from Sota Sports to Soflo sports (South Florida) due to the fact that it will widen our target audience and make our magazine more realistic.

Use of Conventions/Social Groups

The genre for our magazine is sports, specifically sports in high school. We used the conventions of this genre rather than challenged them. We used a font for the cover  title that was similar to the ones used on jerseys, which makes the sports theme evident.  This is something we found was used on the published magazines that we analyzed. In addition we used the concept of putting the feature titles on front page. For the cover photo I used an action shot as is typical of a sports magazine.  The table contents uses the same font as the cover page but the features are  in bold and slightly bigger. The page numbers are large as is typical of a sports magazine. For the article page I used a dominant photo at the top of the first page and the page numbers were cohesive with the table of contents. The magazine targets the social group of high school athletes. Even though the magazine is based in Sarasota the articles on health and training still apply to athletes across...

Mid Term Submission

Contrary to the original plan for the Cover Page I changed the color of the font to white to make sure that the Title and Feature Article tittles were visible. In addition in table of contents I used one large picture rather than several small ones. I had to do this in order to fit all of my article titles on the table of contents. When I was creating the template I didn't account for the large number of article titles.

Scouting Locations

This time of year there are not many rowing events happening. But there is a well known rowing venue called Nathan Benderson Park that I plan on using for pictures. In addition I will take the rest of my pictures at the Sarasota Scullers Clubhouse. The team is there almost everyday and although the lighting is far from ideal, it accurately represents the sport. Interviews & Questions

While working on developing my interview questions I had to decide what I wanted to write about. Due to the time of year I decided I wanted to write about winter training. A series of intense workouts that aim to make everyone on the team faster on the water. Due to the fact that I am a rower it was hard to ask questions, because I already know the answers to most of them, but I managed to come up with some 1. By your definition what is winter training ? 2. Do you think it is a necessary part of training ? 3. If you had a choice would you choose to winter train? 4. What is your reasoning ? 5. What is the most important part of rowing? 6. What is something that most people don't know about rowing ? I conducted these interviews either before or after practice.

90 Page Layout

Today I completed the 90 page Flat Plan. Based on my research the magazines in this genre have about 50 percent ads, therefore my flat plan consists of about 43 ads. There are 4 Posters in the plan, these will be full page photos as found in the rowing magazine I analyzed. For example after the Nathan Benderson Park article there will be a full size picture of the venue and after my feature article there will be  a same size picture of someone erging.   The articles highlighted in red are articles that are found in all editions. Meaning that all group members will have theses pages but they will each pertain to their selected sport. For example my terminology page will introduce and clarify the language of rowing so the reader will better understand the articles throughout the magazine. In addition there is a Senior Spotlight article where in each addition a senior who is going on to compete in college will be featured. Most of the articles are positioned in the center ...
